Ball and spring plungers, also known as spring-loaded devices, are designed to locate, align, and hold different components in a variety of applications. These devices consist of a narrow body, an internal spring, and a ball or nose. They may also have a knob, button, or lever for hand-operated control. Positioning and locking occur when the force of the spring applies pressure to the ball or nose, causing it to remain nested in some sort of hole or other receptacle. Hand-retractable spring plungers are equipped with a knob for manual retraction of the plunger. Whereas spring plungers easily dislodge when some side force is applied, index plungers prevent movement in any direction and must be mechanically retracted. Threaded spring plungers have a locking element that prevents movement due to vibration.
