Life is tough for fourteen-year-old Jesse. His father is too busy to spend time with him, and when he does notice Jesse, it’s only to make sure he does a perfect job helping run the family ski lodge. Even worse, he automatically blames Jesse whenever something goes wrong. One day, Jesse discovers an old journal from the 1600s. Fascinated, he reads about the adventures of a boy named Elazar who is captured by pirates, rescued miraculously, and then embarks upon a search for his kidnapped brother. Jesse’s troubles seem small in comparison… until real danger strikes. Elazar becomes his inspiration as Jesse tries to flee from a desperate situation and escape his captors.
