St Juan Diego was a simple laborer in Mexico. One his 15 mile trek to Mass one morning, a beautiful woman appeared to him in a cloud. This woman was the Virgin Mary and she instructed him to build a Church on that very site. The Bishop was doubtful after hearing Juan's story and wanted Juan to bring proof of what had taken place. Our Lady told Juan to go where they had first met and there he found beautiful roses growing in the frozen soil. Juan gathered the roses (a type which did not grow in Mexico) in his cloak and took them back to the Bishop. Not only were the roses miraculous, but inside Juan's cloak was a beautiful image of Our Lady. A Church was built on the site and many were converted.
