This decaffeinated version lets you enjoy all of the flavors and aromas at all hours of the day - or night. At Tea Kitamura, we are committed to carrying out Mr. Kitamura’s vision: to cultivate a tea that is safe enough for anyone to drink. We proudly do not use any chemicals or pesticides on our farm and that extends to processing the tea. That’s why we were determined to find the most natural way to extract the caffeine from our green tea. Decaffeination techniques commonly rely on carbon dioxide, methylene chloride, or ethyl acetate. While there is nothing inherently wrong with any of these, we felt that using additional ingredients was not in line with our brand’s promise. That left the least-common technique: removing caffeine through hot water. When we tried to outsource the decaffeination, we were told over and over again that it wasn’t possible to achieve the quality we wanted. Or that it simply wasn’t worth the time and effort. But we knew there was an entire segment of tea drinkers who were missing out due to caffeine sensitivity, medical reasons, or simply because of the time of day. Mr. Kitamura always said that he wanted everyone to be able to enjoy tea. So, we brought the entire process in-house. We developed a proprietary decaffeination technique that gives us full end-to-end control of our product quality. Using only hot water and high-quality raw materials, we are able to retain the full body and depth of the green tea while removing nearly all of the caffeine*. The result is a delicate tea that is aromatic, grassy, and pure in taste. * This decaf tea contains less than 2mg of caffeine per cup, which has been found to be undetectable in testing.
