Product Information

  • Physalis peruviana, species of the Physalis in the nightshade family Solanceae, origin is Peru. This fruit is also commonly called the Cape gooseberry, goldenberry or little lanterns. This plant is annual in temperate climates but perennial in tropical climates. It grows well in abundant rainfall if the soil is well drained and prefers full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil, and grows vigorously in sand.
  • This plant produces a small yellow edible berry surrounded by a papery husk. Ground cherries typically produce hundreds of fruit on each plant. Huge yields of tart-sweet berries. This is the common type used by the Pilgrims. They turn to yellow-orange and fall off the plant when mature. Stores for several months while in husk.
