- Zoisite, first known as saualpite, after its type locality, is a calcium aluminium hydroxy sorosilicate belonging to the epidote group of minerals. Zoisite may be blue to violet, green, brown, pink, yellow, gray, or colorless. It has a vitreous luster and a conchoidal to uneven fracture. Sources of zoisite include Tanzania (tanzanite), Kenya (anyolite), Norway (thulite), Switzerland, Austria, India, Pakistan, and the U.S. state of Washington.
- Thulite is a calcium aluminium silicate hydroxide mineral, the pink manganese rich variety of Zoisite and is found in medium grade regionally metamorphosed rocks. Thulite, variety of Zoicite, that was first found in Norway and named after Thule, the ancient name for that country. Thulite is the translucent to opaque pink variety of zoisite, which is often mottled or streaked with gray or white quartz. This gem is also called rosaline.
