- EASY TO MAINTAIN: Leave a coating of cooking oil on the cast iron grill grate after each use. We recommend the use of saturated fats because they are more stable at room temperature and less susceptible to oxidation. If you use the cast iron grill every day, it doesn't matter what kind of oil you use. If not used for a long time, it should be treated with saturated fat oil such as coconut oil, lard or butter
