Product Description
Penstemon angustifolius is a rare perennial that is very rewarding to grow. Commonly it is called Narrow-Leaved Beardtongue or Pagoda Beardtongue and it has glossy, evergreen foliage with upright stems. The stems have lovely blue to lavender colored trumpet-shaped flowers that are very attractive to bees and hummingbirds. This variety does especially well in a rock garden or in a container. It is recommended to start Pagoda Beardtongue seed directly outdoors in the late fall. Prepare a seedbed, press the seed into the soil and cover lightly with garden sand. In the spring when temperatures begin to warm up, germination is usually within 30 days with sturdy plants by mid-spring. Penstemon can be transplanted in the spring if needed. Grow Pagoda Beardtonue in full sun and in well-drained soil that contains rocky material or sand. Space plants 10 inches apart. Approximately 17,000 seeds per ounce.
