Product Description

The Grand Mesa National Forest, located in west-central Colorado, was established by President Benjamin Harrison on December 24, 1892 as a forest reserve; the second to be created in Colorado and the third in the United States. The present Grand Mesa National Forest is about 540 square miles.

The Grand Mesa, one of the largest flat top mountains in the world, rises more than a mile above the converging valleys of the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers to an elevation of over 11,000 feet. The alpine forest atop the mesa, which includes Engelmann spruce, subalpine fir and aspen, is a striking contrast to the sagebrush and rabbitbrush of the valley floors.
