Amazon’s proprietary A9 search algorithm is specifically designed to bring customers relevant and high-selling search results to help them get what they want quickly.
Let’s say you’re a seller trying to sell a case for an iPad Air. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes for a moment and think what terms you would type into the search bar to find your product. Terms like “case,” “Apple,” and “iPad Air” would come to mind.
These terms are referred to as keywords, or words that lead customers to your listing and are what Amazon’s search algorithm looks for. Sellers should make it a priority to include high-ranking keywords in each listing’s title and description.
But what keywords are the most effective?
There are several strategies for coming up with good keywords:
- Use Amazon’s search bar yourself and type in a generic term for your product. All of the resulting search suggestions are popular queries other customers have searched for.
- Think about other products a customer in your demographic might be interested in. If you sell coffee mugs, think about coffee filters or coffee makers. Include those keywords if you can to catch some extra eyes.
Use a keyword research tool. Algopix is one such solution that takes its data from Google’s AdWords Analysis, giving you real-time insight into what your customers are searching for.
