You do not have to pay anything upfront, just to be a seller, but you do have to pay a number of other fees, such as: Insertion (aka listing) fees, to actually list your product for sale on eBay; selling fees (when you do an actual selling, usually 10% of the item's price) and shipping fees. You can list up to 100 items per month for auction for free, if you do not have a dedicated eBay store, and as long as the starting price is between $0.01 - 0.99, and has no reserve price. If you end up with more than 100 for auction in a month, eBay will charge you $0.10 per listing. In addition, using PayPal as a payment method, there is that fee as well, but that is an external payment, not directly to eBay. Ultimately, eBay charges for your transactions, but simply registering as an “eBay seller” will not cost you money (again, as long as you did not list products for sale). As always, you should read eBay's guidelines on the subject.
