This Pompon Aster is a terrific performer in the summer garden. Callistephus have large 2 - 3 inch blooms that are loaded with petals. This variety is pure white. They are very attractive to butterflies, and they make wonderful cut flowers as well. Pompon Asters are quick to establish in a sunny garden, and they prefer moist, well-drained soil. Deadhead the spent blooms to prolong the bloom season. Start the Aster seed indoor 4 weeks before the end of frost season. Cover the seed very thinly with soil, keep the seed moist, and maintain a temperature between 60 - 70F. Germination is usually within 21 days. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed and space the plants 9 - 12 inches apart.
