This vinyl post skirt can be snapped on after post installation or added to a previously installed post. It is not required to "slide over" an existing post. Use clear silicone (not included) for outdoor use to secure the cap (optional). - SIZING & COMPATIBILITY: This 4x4 post base trim fits perfectly on true 4in x 4in post. This skirt will NOT fit a nominal 4x4 post (3.5 in. x 3.5 in.) Max post dimensions are 4.03" x 4.03" and the overall outside dimension when installed is 5.63".
